I've just read a quote that completely sums up my outlook on what I do:

"Dont learn the tricks of the trade, learn the trade."

I like that. Too many people fail to appreciate good design these days, assuming mediocre design is all they need.

I've just posted a tutorial on some of the basics of web hosting. It's worth a read, as it may help you decide what you want and exactly what your web designer's going on about.

Finally, I've posted a tutorial, this one, a nice simple one for clients on how to get the best out of SEO and their web designers.  You can find it on the tutorials page.  If there's anything you'd like me to help with, let me know and if I have time, I'll write a tutorial on that.

Wow, it's been a busy couple of weeks!  I keep on meaning to add more content to this website, but it's always bottom of the list when I have a long list of clients wanting websites sorted.  I'll get there eventually.  Look out for more portfolio examples coming soon, as well as some more photos.

I've just downloaded the latest Firefox release candidate.  Unlike Internet Explorer, which becomes more unweildy on each new release, Firefox just seems to get more and more streamlined.  It's not been officially released yet, but from what I can see, there are very few kinks left to work out.  My favourite new feature is the 'most visited button', which gives you a drop-down list of your most commonly visited websites.  The address bar also indexes previous website addresses and website names, so rather than typing in every website, beginning with 'www.' you can just enter a part of the website name.

For several years now, any active content displayed in Internet Explorer has displayed a grey box around it, requiring users to activate it before it will intergrate smoothly into the page.  This is an unsightly nuisance as well as a pain when using Flash as an interactive component.
This was caused by Microsoft infringing on the patent of another company, who had developed the technology to self-initialise content.  However, Microsoft have now bought in.  As a result, any interactive contnent in all versions of Internet Explorer should display just as smoothly as it would in Firefox, Safari or Opera.  If you still see the grey box around your content, I suggest you update your software from the Microsoft Update website.  It will not only fix this, but give you the opportunity to automatically fix other errors and potential security loopholes.

I guess it's getting there!  I've added some examples of my work on the portfolio page, though there's quite a bit more still to go up. I have plans for a lot of content to be housed on this website.  The challenge is keeping it tidy and easy to find.

Welcome to my new website. Here you can view my portfolio, read the tutorials I have written, check out my digital photography, contact me or check the progress of your ongoing projects. It's not all up and running yet, but it's getting there.

Even though everything's still under construction, as I have plans to fill it with content both useful, beautiful and imaginative. It’s also great to have complete creative freedom in my design. I get to decide everything and at the risk of sounding like a control freak, I mean everything!
I can also express my opinions completely freely, for example, I can tell you that if you’re viewing this site in Internet Explorer, you really shouldn’t be, use Firefox, it’s better.
